It’s the middle of the season (crazy as that sounds)!
It’s time to look back to the beginning of the year, where I thought it would be a good idea to make a bunch of bold predictions. Now, we look back on the absolute clunkers (and some good picks!).
Bold Predictions
New England Patriots – Patriots give Cam Newton a long-term deal (2 stars)
Well, this isn’t looking too hot. Cam Newton got off to a good start, but he’s fallen off a cliff since then. The Patriots will most likely look to somebody else for their future.
Buffalo Bills – Tre’Davious White finishes as a DPOY finalist (1 star)
Yikes. Tre White has not been good this year. He’s allowing a passer rating of 120.6 whenever he’s being targeted. That, uhh, really isn’t something that a DPOY finalist would do.
New York Jets – Bradley McDougald leads the league in interceptions (0 stars)
He doesn’t have a single interception. 🙁
Miami Dolphins – Dolphins have three Pro Bowlers (3 stars)
This one was looking alright until Fitzmagic got benched. Xavien Howard should be a Pro Bowler, but Fitzmagic was the next best option. I don’t know if they’ll be able to get to three this year, but it’s still possible (Jason Sanders, anyone?).
Kansas City Chiefs – Clyde Edwards-Helaire wins Offensive Rookie of the Year (4 stars)
CEH hasn’t disappointed. I think the three finalists for OROY are Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. As the other two fall off a little (it happens with bad teams), CEH has a shot to get this award.
Denver Broncos – Drew Lock finishes as an MVP finalist (0 stars)
I don’t want to talk about it (but hey, maybe after this comeback, it’s still possible?).
Las Vegas Raiders – Cory Littleton leads the league in tackles (1 star)
He’s 85th in combined tackles, so at least he’s in the top 100.
Los Angeles Chargers – Austin Ekeler finishes in the top 5 for rushing yards (2 stars)
This isn’t gonna happen, but it’s not my fault. I can’t predict injuries, and before he got hurt, he was kinda balling out.
Baltimore Ravens – Ravens go to the Super Bowl (3 stars)
This is still a pretty solid pick, but this Steelers game wasn’t great.
Pittsburgh Steelers – JuJu Smith-Schuster finishes in the top 5 for receiving yards (1 star)
He’s 49th, so it’s not looking good. I can still hope, but I might have to take the L on this one.
Cleveland Browns – Browns make the playoffs (5 stars)
*insert Mike Breen voice* BANG! (Please don’t choke this, Baker)
Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow finishes in the top 10 for passing yards (5 stars)
He’s #3. This AFC North run has been an absolute heater (uhh, just ignore the Steelers).
Houston Texans – David Johnson finishes in the top 10 for rushing yards (3 stars)
He’s in 19th, and he’s 106 yards behind #10. This prediction is still alive, but it’ll take a bit of a push from Johnson.
Tennessee Titans – Derrick Henry rushes for over 2,000 yards (3 stars)
He’s on pace for 1760 yards, so this isn’t going great. However, he is leading the league in rushing by a lot, so he could pick it up (hopefully).
Indianapolis Colts – Jonathan Taylor finishes in the top 10 for rushing yards (2 stars)
He’s in 20th. I really don’t think this will happen, but he’s in that David Johnson range. There’s still some hope.
Jacksonville Jaguars – Jaguars win six games (1 star)
That first game gave me so much hope, but it’s just been dashed over and over again. This is basically over.
Philadelphia Eagles – Eagles win the Super Bowl (1 star)
Let’s start with the good news: the Eagles will probably make the playoffs! Now, let’s talk about the bad news: the Eagles are not a good team, and there’s no way they make the Super Bowl.
Dallas Cowboys – Dak Prescott finishes as an MVP finalist (2 stars)
This one hurts. I was on pace to hit this one, but he got injured. He’s out for the year, so this prediction is gonna be a huge “what if?”.
New York Giants – Saquon Barkley finishes in the top 3 for rushing yards (0 stars)
Nope. He wasn’t doing well, and then he got injured. Just bad all around.
Washington Football Team – Terry McLaurin finishes in the top 10 for receiving yards (5 stars)
He’s in 9th in yards per game. Finally, a good prediction after a string of terrible ones.
San Francisco 49ers – Nick Bosa leads the league in sacks (0 stars)
He’s out for the year, so he finishes 2020 with zero sacks. 🙁
Seattle Seahawks – Seahawks win the NFC West (5 stars)
Hmm… what was that? Sorry, I couldn’t hear you over this blazing hot prediction.
Los Angeles Rams – Jared Goff goes to the Pro Bowl (2 stars)
Will he go to the Pro Bowl? Probably not. Is he a good quarterback? Also probably not.
Arizona Cardinals – Cardinals make the playoffs (5 stars)
🙂
Green Bay Packers – Aaron Rodgers finishes in the top 5 for passing yards (2 stars)
He’s been phenomenal, but he’s 9th in passing yards. Because of that, this prediction ain’t looking too good.
Minnesota Vikings – Danielle Hunter wins Defensive Player of the Year (0 stars)
He still hasn’t played yet. Not good.
Chicago Bears – Nick Foles makes the Pro Bowl (4 stars)
This prediction is me saying that the Bears backup QB goes to the Pro Bowl. It’s not happening, but it isn’t too far off, either.
Detroit Lions – Kenny Golladay leads the league in receiving yards (2 stars)
He’s been good, but he missed too many games for this to be a possibility anymore.
New Orleans Saints – Saints get the NFC #1 seed (2 stars)
Technically, they’re only one game back of the #1 seed.
Atlanta Falcons – Todd Gurley finishes in the top 5 for rushing yards (5 stars)
He’s in 4th, so, uhh, this is looking solid.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – O. J. Howard finishes in the top 5 for TE receiving yards (1 star)
He’s 32nd. Injuries have this one impossible.
Carolina Panthers – Christian McCaffrey breaks the single-season rushing record (0 stars)
Injuries said “nah”. 🙁
