Joe Flacco Signs with the Jets

Joe Flacco just got signed, so I guess it’s time for another backup quarterback article.

The former Broncos and Ravens QB just signed a 1 year, $1.5 million contract with the Jets to be Sam Darnold’s backup.

This is much different than the Andy Dalton signing, though. Both Flacco and Dalton played in several games last year. Dalton played 13 games for the Bengals, who were the worst team in football, and Flacco played 8 games for the Broncos, who had weapons like Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant, and Phillip Lindsay. Flacco was slightly better than Dalton statistically, but his team was significantly better. Therefore, Dalton is a better QB than Flacco.

I’m a Broncos fan, so I watched a lot of Joe Flacco. He wasn’t very good last year. He got benched for Brandon Allen! I don’t think Flacco’s a good quarterback anymore. He might be able to be an average backup, but I’m not sure if he’s a starting-caliber QB.

However, this is a solid signing by the Jets because of how cheap the contract is. 1.5 million dollars is an incredibly cheap price for a backup QB. Flacco also does have experience. He is a veteran, and he should still be able to be a good mentor for Darnold. This is a very low-risk, low-reward signing, and there’s not really much I can bash the Jets for here.
